Raforta Cearbhallsdatter was the daughter of King Cearbhall of Leinster in Ireland. She was married to Eyvind Austmann Bjørnsson. Their son, Helgi, was born in the Hebride Islands and was also fostered there. (In those days, kings sons were often raised by some other ruler with whom they were in league.) When his parents came back to the islands to see how their son was getting along they found a boy with nice eyes but without meat on bones. This became the cause of his nickname Helgi the Skinny (or the Lean). Because of this Raforta and Eyvind took him from the Hebrides and had him fostered in Ireland.
