Pål (or Paul) was the elder son of Thorfin the Mighty and shared the kingdom of the Orkneys with his brother Erlend after their father's death. They ruled together quite congenially until their children became old enough to get involved in politics. It came to be that Paul's son, Haakon was eventually banished from the Orkneys (1093) and he stayed in Sweden and Norway for the next few years. It was the visits from Haakon that eventually persuaded King Magnus of Norway to install his own son, Sigurd (to become known as Sigurd Jorsalafari - the Crusader) as King of the Orkneys.
Torfinn the Black, also called Torfinn the Mighty, Earl of Orkney, Earl of Caithness. He was born about 1000 and died about 1064. He became Orkenøyjarl after older brother. He was large, strong and wise according to Snorre. He was also king in part of Scotland and Yorkshire in 1035. In Yorkshire his seat was at Wassington. Family squabbles with his half brothers marred the early part of his reign. Later his main rival was a man called Karl Hundisson the Scottish King (whom Ashley believes is the same as Duncan), Duncan/Hundisson invaded Thorfin's territory twice, loosing both times, resulting in Duncan's death which provided the opportunity for Thorfin to take over Duncan's realm. Thus he became ruler of much of northern Scotland. Later in life, Thorfin became converted to Christianity, although no records indicate his baptism. He went on a tour to Rome, visited the Pope who forgave him all his past sins. He established a church at Birsay, int he Orkneys. He was probably involved in Rollo's family's conquest of England (William of Normandy). After his death his kingdom was shared by his two sons, Erland and Paul.

He was the only son of Hlodvir and became one of the mightiest Earls. He gain control of much of he islands and was the one who appointed his sister's husband, Gille as Earl over the Hebrides. Sigurd Digre was Orkenøy-jarl and King of Man and then Scotland. He married a daughter of the Scottish King, Malcolm.
One of the most famous traditions surrounding Sigurd was his conversion to Christianity. He was basically forced to accept Christianity by Olaf Tryggvesson who threatend to sacrifice his son Hundi, even so Olaf still took Hundi as a hostage to make sure Sigurd stayed true to Christianity. Unfortunately Hundi died and Sigurd dropped the faith.
Sigurd was killed in a battle with Sitric Silkenbeard (the Norse king of Dublin) when they attacked the Irish high king, Brian Bóru, in which Sitric promised Sigurd that he could become the High King fo Ireland if they won. Both Brian and Sigurd lost their lives in this battle, with the Irish victorious.

Donada's father, Malcolm did not have any sons, so he tried to get his grandsons installed as Kings of Scotland. Donada's sister, Bethoc had a son, Duncan, who bacme a King of Scotland. Donada was married to Sigurd Digre, Earl of Orkney and a descendant of the Norse Vikings.
He was the last surviving son (of 5) of Thorfinn Skull-Splitter. We know little of his reing, but had 2 daughters and a son, Sigurd, who succeeded him. Lofve's wife, Eithne was a daughter of Cerball Kjarvall, King of Ossory.
Reign 25 Mar 1005-25 Nov 1034. Malcolm became king of Scots in 1005, after killing his cousin and predecessor Kenneth son of Dub in a battle. He led an attack on Durham, England in 1006, but was decisively defeated after the siege was broken. The most important event of his reign was probably the battle of Carham, which occurred in either 1016 or 1018. Malcolm led an invasion of Northumbria, and his victory pushed the Scottish realm well into traditional English territories. An important consequence of the battle was the death of Owen, the last native king of Strathclyde, which, from this point on, was part of the kingdom of the Scots.
A notable external event was Malcolm's meeting with King Canute of England in 1031.
Malcolm had no sons, but he apparently wanted his descendants to rule the Scots, so he tried to revolutionize succession practices by arranging to have one of his grandsons succeed him. To this end, he had competing claimants of the house of Alpin murdered in the early 1030's. Upon his death he was succeeded by his grandson Duncan.
